Foot care is essential if you are suffering from Arthritis in your feet and ankle because the proper care can help to decrease the swelling and pain in your feet making it easier to walk and have greater function in your daily life.
The month of may is Arthritis Awareness month and as a Scottsdale foot doctor, I see many patients with arthritis in the feet and am able to provide them with support that helps to decrease foot pain.
Arthritis is actually the leading cause of disability in the U.S. and 20 million people report having severe limitations of function their daily life because of it.
The most important thing that you can do for your feet if you have arthritis is too make sure they are well supported. Custom orthotics as well as proper fitting custom shoes support your feet and doing so, help to limit pain and swelling while you are walking.
On the other hand, if you do not have the right shoes and supports, you will it is possible that your condition can worsen, especially in pain, because the feet do not have the right support and are therefore, subject to increased injury.
Come in to a Scottsdale podiatrist if you are suffering from foot pain. Call 480-483-9000 today for an appointment. We are able to provide you with proper fitting shoes and custom orthotics that will make walking more comfortable.
Stretching is a great way to reduce some of the stiffness in your toes, feet, and ankle. Here are some helpful stretches:
The Achilles Stretch: Put your palms on the wall and lean against the wall. Put one foot forward and one foot back. Lean forward leaving your heels on the floor. You should feel the stretch in your Achilles tendon and calf. Repeat this exercise on each foot three times and hold for at least 10 seconds.
As a warning, if you feel any pain while stretching, stop the stretch immediately as stretching while having pain can cause a torn Achilles Tendon, torn muscle, or other injury. If unsure about how to perform this stretch properly see your Podiatrist.
Toe Curl: Pick up marbles with your toes: helps to strengthen and loosen up your toes.
