Relieving Bunion Pain
Bunion treatment is mostly conservative and by applying simple podiatrist strategies, you can stop a bunion from continuing to grow, protect yourself from bunion pain, and shrink swelling. One of the main causes of a bunion is bad fitting shoes. These include dress shoes like high heels or any shoes with a tight toe box.
The toe box squeezes the toe joints causing inflammation and the big toe joint to protrude outward forming the bunion. One of the best ways to heal bunion pain is to make sure you have the correct footwear.
At the American Foot and Ankle Specialists, we will make sure you have the best footwear that protects your individual feet. Different shoes are made for different feet but many times this information isn’t discussed when purchasing a pair of shoes. Also, the in soles in a shoe are generic and can be actively contributing to foot pain.
I will look at the shape of your feet and recommend for you shoes that will help the bunion to heel. Also, I may custom make a pair of orthotics for you so that your feet are provided the maximum amount of support.
Taking Away Bunion Irritations
Using warm soaks, ice packs, ultrasound, and massage are all good ways to reduce pain and swelling. We can also provide and recommend gel-filled pads which protect the bunion from rubbing up against the side on your shoes.
One of the main problems with a bunion is that as it grows, it begins to rub up against the side of a person’s shoes. This causes tremendous irritation that leads to swelling, redness, and even cuts and sores that only get deeper and which can turn into an infection.
Maintaining a normal weight will also relieve an extra pressure put onto your feet. All bunions are permanent unless surgically corrected. If severe, we can provide a minor surgical procedure that will realign your big toe and remove bunion tissue.
No matter the severity of your bunion, we have a solution for you. In fact, we guarantee patient satisfaction, which is why we have been able to help patients again and again for over twenty years in practice. We look forward to helping you both solve and understand this problem and you can book your appointment at either our Sun City podiatry or Scottsdale podiatry office.
