The Comfortability Of Custom, Podiatrist-Made Orthotics

The shape of everyone’s foot is different.  Some people have high-arches while other people have flat feet or normal arches.  Both high-arches and flat feet are actually common foot deformities but they can cause intense daily foot pain and lead to foot conditions like plantar fasciitis and heel pain.

Further, different types of shoes are made for different types of feet but most people don’t know this.  A person with flat feet can easily walk into a shoe store and pick out a pair of shoes that they like that is actually made for people with a neutral foot or high-arches.  Then, this shoe will actually cause harm to the flat footed person making the onset of foot pain happen more easily and faster.

In addition, inserts from store-bought shoes are usually made with cheap materials and only shaped from the “generic” average foot.  These types of “generic” orthotics can actively cause harm to a person with flat feet or high-arches.  They don’t provide the support where these foot types need it the most and the additional pressures and stresses placed on the feet cause daily foot pain.  Custom orthotics relieve foot pain and protect people from painful foot conditions.

When To See A Podiatrist

If you are having foot pain, it is time to see a podiatrist at the American Foot and Ankle Specialists.  We will make sure that this problem does not get out of hand and you can relieve this pain as quickly as possible.  We find that one of the quickest ways to relieve foot pain is with custom, podiatrist-made orthotics.  These orthotics are different then the one’s found in shoes and different than the one’s found in pharmacies.  They are made by us, professional podiatrists, that thoroughly examine your feet and walking pattern and take a mold of your exact foot to make the orthotics.

Our orthotics are customized to  your feet and your feet alone and provide additional cushioning where your feet need it the most.  Most of our patients find relief within days and are amazed at how their foot pain has virtually disappeared.  Orthotics are usually an important part of the process for many foot conditions as well.  Almost everyone can benefit from custom orthotics versus the orthotics of store-bought shoes.  You can visit us at our Sun City podiatry office or Scottsdale podiatry office.

Relieve Foot Pain With Custom Orthotics

Orthotics are one of the most powerful tools that podiatrists use to heal foot pain.  At the American Foot and Ankle Specialists, our patients are amazed at how our orthotics take away much if not all of their daily foot pain.

The reason orthotics work so well is because they are made specifically to match up with your foot type and walking pattern.  In store-bought shoes, the inserts that come with these shoes are often made with cheap materials and have a generic shape made for the “average” foot.  Any person with flat fleet or high-arched feet is actually harmed by these generic in soles because they don’t relieve any walking pressure where it is needed most.

Sometimes, our patients are even wearing sneakers that made for different foot types and when we discover this, we suggest to our patients what shoes are good for their foot type.  This creates a tremendous difference in the comfort that they feel on a daily basis.  Often, the right shoes with custom made orthotics is enough to relieve the entirety of foot pain that our patients experience.

Types Of Orthotics

There are two categories that we use to make our orthotics.  One is functional orthotics while the other is accommodative orthotics.  The functional orthotics that we make are designed to control and support abnormal motion.  This means that if a patients walk abnormally, these orthotics will help to relieve pain caused by that abnormal walk.  Functional orthotics are also used to treat a variety of foot injuries such as tendinitis or shin splints.

Accommodative orthotics are orthotics, where the main focus is to create more comfort.  They provide cushioning and support and are used to treat ulcers, calluses, and other uncomfortable foot conditions.  Some form of accommodative orthotics are made for people with flat feet and high-arched feet to provide them additional cushioning, where the most pressure is applied to their feet while walking.

Sometimes, orthotics are covered by insurance but if not, they often prove to be a worthy investment as they maintain their function for a minimum of a year helping patients maintain comfortable, pain-free feet during this period.  Our orthotics are made from top-notch materials and it is easy to notice the difference between orthotics bought in a store like CVS and podiatrist-made orthotics.

It is time to see a foot doctor at the American Foot and Ankle Specialists if you are experiencing any foot pain while either sitting or walking.  Call (480) 483-9000 and schedule a consultation to receive your pair of custom orthotics.

Foot Pain Without Orthotics

The shape of your feet may be causing you foot pain and if you aren’t wearing the right shoes or in soles, your foot pain will likely only get worse.  Patients at the American Foot and Ankle Specialists always ask me what is the best thing they can do right now to relieve their foot pain and the answer is always the same.

The first thing that I do is look at their foot type.  They may have flat feet, normal arches, or high-arches.  Afterwards, I look at their shoes and in soles.  People with flat feet and high-arches need custom made orthotics in order to avoid foot pain.  If a person hasn’t seen professional about their footwear, they are likely either wearing the wrong shoes or in soles or both.

In every shoe, there is an in sole.  These in soles are shaped for the “average” foot and made of generic, cheap material.  If a person has flat feet or high-arched feet, their in soles may actually be causing their foot pain.

A podiatrist at the American Foot and Ankle Specialists will cast your foot and take a mold of it’s shape.  From this, your own pair of prescription orthotics will be made.  My patients are always amazed at how much better they feel when wearing our orthotics.  The reason is because these orthotics match both the shape of your feet and walking pattern giving you the maximum amount of support while you walk.

Changing Footwear To Reduce Foot Pain

Custom orthotics are one important way to end foot pain.  The second way is to make sure you have the proper shoes on.  Different shoes are made for different foot types.  Some shoes are made for high arches while others are made for flat feet.  The problem is that most people do not know this when they are shoe shopping and end up buying a pair of shoes that do not support their foot shape.  In these cases, such shoes cause foot pain.

If you have foot pain, it is time to see a podiatrist at either our Sun City podiatry or Scottsdale podiatry office.  People that are always on their feet, especially for work or exercise will often need custom made orthotics.

Orthotics found in stores like CVS will not have the same heavy duty support as a prescription made orthotic.  The material will be less quality as well so if you have tried store bought orthotics and your feet are still paining you, this is likely the reason.

Relieve Foot Pain With Prescription Orthotics

If you are experiencing foot pain, it is time to see a podiatrist at the American Foot and Ankle Specialists.  One of the best treatments to heal foot pain is prescription orthotics. Made by a podiatrist at either our Sun City podiatry or Scottsdale podiatry location, they provide additional support and cushioning for every step.

Our prescription orthotics are custom made to match your specific foot type and walking pattern.  Many patients suffer from foot pain just because of purchasing improper footwear.  People with high arched feet or flat feet need both a certain type of sneaker and custom orthotics because buying the wrong kind means that the shape of shoe and in sole will active harm your feet when walking.

Store-bought insoles are also made from cheap material and are intended to fit the “average” foot.  Since everyone’s foot shape is different, generic in soles provide very little support to the individual person, especially those with high arched or flat feet.

Foot pain is essential to take care of because it can even lead to pain in other parts of the body such as knee pain, hip pain, and back pain.  These different areas of pain may all source back to the feet, where because the feet are in constant pain, it is causing pain to radiate in other parts of the body.

Extra Cushion

Depending on your lifestyle, we will construct your orthotics.  Some patients need functional orthotics, which are designed to control abnormal motion and other patients need accommodative orthotics, which are softer and meant to provide additional cushioning and support.

People with flat feet and high arched feet often need accommodative orthotics and if you have one of these foot shapes, your foot pain and/or foot conditions may stem from incorrect footwear.

Custom orthotics are often included in the treatment of plantar fasciitis, tendinitis, bursitis, and foot, ankle, and heel pain because foot orthotics are proven to decrease foot pain and improve function.

If you are just looking for extra cushioning, shoe inserts purchased in a retail store amy be fine for you but if you are experiencing foot pain, it is important to see a podiatrist about prescription orthotics.  For over twenty years, we have used prescription orthotics to heal foot pain and are confident that our orthotics will help you relieve your symptoms.

End Foot Pain With Custom Made Orthotics

Heel pain is derived often when the feet are receiving proper protection.  Often, heel pain is either from a heel spur or plantar fasciitis.  Protecting one’s feet is the most thing one can do to avoid foot pain.

Everyone’s feet has a different shape.  Some have an average foot shape, some have flat feet, and some have high-arches.  Unfortunately, the in-soles in store-bought shoes are all shaped for the generic foot.  This actively harms high-arched and flat feet by providing them little support where needed when the person is walking.

At the same time, different shoes are made for different foot types and it is very difficult to figure out which is which in the store unless one knows what to look for.  One have a certain foot shape and be wearing shoes for the opposite foot shape, which actively harms a person’s feet leading to a range of foot conditions such as plantar fasciitis, bunions, achilles tendinitis, and heel spurs.

How you fix this problem is quite simple?  First, come in for an appointment at the American Foot and Ankle Specialists and see one of our podiatrists.  They will determine your foot shape and discuss it with you so you understand what you need to protect your feet and alleviate foot pain.

Our podiatrists will also create for you a custom made orthotics that provides you the maximum amount of support while walking.  Each orthotic fits your foot shape and walking pattern in order to give you the support you need during every step.  In this way, instead of having in soles that actively harm your feet, they will now be protecting them.

Our podiatrists will also help you make the correct decision on shoes to wear and what you need to look for.  We will show you what to research in order to find the shoes you need for every activity you wish to include in your life.
